When: Late night Friday 9/2, after Saguru's anticlimactic showdown with robo-Kaito.
Where: Room 010/Mukuro's door.
Summary: Mukuro gets a present after Robo-Kaito unwittingly re-enacts one of Saguru's first few showdowns with Kid.
Rating: PG?
Warnings: Likely language. Detective with "basically the God of all hangovers" and no dignity. Mukuro.
At a late hour of night, if Mukuro's paying attention and awake, he might notice some funny, quiet noise just outside his door.
Whether he chooses to investigate right then or in the morning, he'll find an empty hallway.
That's after he gets the door open; it might be a little difficult since there's an unconscious detective handcuffed to it.
In his boxers.
With the words "Happy Birthday Mukuro, love Kaito ~<3" drawn on his chest ornately in Sharpie marker.
No, it was not a good night for the detective last night.

And it is very rare for him to look honest about anything.
It's only for a moment though. He's just smiling like his usual self in the next second. He illusions a little glass of water in his hand and dumps the contents onto his
toy'shead and awaits for him regain consciousness.no subject
[He manages to crack an eyelid with a grumble, and the first thing to clearly process is pants legs... familiar ones ... and tracking upward to Mukuro standing over him.]
[And his clothes are missing. And his wrists are a bit sore from being in handcuffs for an hour.]
Oh goddamnitall...
no subject
He blinks and for a moment his eye goes into the fourth path of hell, as he had during their meeting during slasher-flick week. His eye glows in that purple flame and he very easily breaks the chain on the handcuffs with his bare hand. He blinks and his eye returns to the first path.
"Though my birthday was nearly three months ago. Whoever left you to me needs to check their facts."
There is no disguising the amusement in his voice... not that he's really trying.

"I had a confrontation turn into an impromptu re-enactment of another incident. Apparently when I see Kaito again I need to question him about his doppelganger." Since, you know, the fact that the note was SIGNED meant that there was no sidestepping that.
He started to get up, but ended up stumbling, still shaky, and groaned with the combination of headache and being stiff and sore everywhere, and opted for propping up against the wall instead.
no subject
As amusing as this all is, Mukuro can't help but be mildly annoyed. What if he had needed to take over his body? Or some event had come up where he needed Saguru? Well, he looks out for his 'friends'. He beckons for Saguru to come into his room.
"Come, come, you can't go walking around the halls in nothing but your underwear."
That and it would be humiliating to be in your body in that state...
no subject
"And it wasn't precisely Kaito - he was sent home sometime last week." Which means that now Saguru has his room to himself, something where he's not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. "Apparently he had a doppelganger he never told me about - not an illusion or disguise; who - or what - ever this is was exact to just about every detail including behavior for the most part, and was quite convinced they were the 'real' Kaito."
I will spell nonsense right on the first try someday.
Mukuro beckons to his couch as he headed to his bureau and opened it. Usually he would NEVER consider lending out his clothes, however, he still had clothes remaining from his previous stay at the manor. Clothes that were a bit loose on his, as they were from before his stay at Vendice...
...and everyone knows Mukuro would never wear something that didn't fit him perfectly.
And thus, he digs out his Kokuyo uniform, with one of those trademark purple camo-print shirts he's so fond of, and hands it to Saguru. As much as he amusing as he found his little friend had been labelled with his name on him, he would much rather he have a bit of dignity.
"Put these on, save yourself any more embarrassment walking back to your room. So, this doppelganger might explain how he could be in two places at once. That is one of you magician's mysteries solved at least."
Re: I will spell nonsense right on the first try someday.
Waking up in Shiki's clothes probably would've been closer to "normal" for him. Still, it was something, and at least it would minimize how many questions he'd have to put up with if someone else runs into him in the hallway on his way back to his room, so he's putting it on with the small hint of long-suffering that comes from being way too used to this crap.
"Doubtful. It seems more like the old folkloric 'attempting to replace' than something cooperative; this one was convinced the real Kaito was defective, and was perfectly happy to threaten violence, which would be massively out of character for Kid, who happens to be a fairly strict pacifist. Also when I'd used those smoke grenades against the real Kid, he got out of them by panicking and fighting me for my rebreather, not just ignoring it as if it weren't there." And that long-suffering look gains more of a frown. Trying to get the rebreather back was like trying to scuffle with a wall, he couldn't even use his weight against what should've been a smaller person. "They also addressed me as Kaito, with no pretense or mention of Kid."
Re: I will spell nonsense right on the first try someday.
Oh shut up and take his damn school uniform Guru. You know it's fabulous!"Hmmm, you don't say. Seems like a dangerous type then? Perhaps one genetically altered somehow? I've seen human experimentation with a great variation results." He ponders a moment, supposedly about something to further Saguru's thought process, but in reality the gears are turning about what this person is. He would simply love to see what exactly made one immune to some sort of sedating gas, and so easily over power Saguru. Well, time to get back to semi-useful lies, "It would certainly makes sense for him to have an air of superiority over someone not altered as he was. I've seen it before among other experimented children. A bit of a coping method with the drugs and physical altercations I assume. They were the most likely to react violently... and typically the first to be put down. Perhaps he managed to escape?"
Hmm... he just described himself a bit there.
Oh well.
Well, Mukuro's half right... Akito WAS an experiment...
That's the problem, Saguru isn't.He sunk down in the chair a little, and it's hard to tell if he's rubbing his temples under the pretense of shading his eyes, or shading his eyes under the pretense of rubbing his temples. He really wasn't sure what was worse, the headache or the light-sensitivity. "Mmm, quite possibly. I need to look into this further; I've seen it proven that we do have some of the supernatural and bizarre on our world, it's just rare, although this one does seem to have a lack of actual self-identity at the moment besides 'Kaito'." Yes, that description is being filed away and he's well aware that Mukuro's a bit of an expert on that subject. "I don't remember having heard anything about this, which means he's either something that happened before I arrived that I hadn't run across, or something that hasn't happened yet." That last possibility was what worried him; if it's past then he knows Kaito got out of it alright, but if it's future...
He can smell vulnerable experiment people a mile away!
He pauses thoughtfully. He very much wanted to meet this 'kaito'. It probably wouldn't be hard to manipulate him into a similar position to Ken and Chikusa.
"That would probably infer that the boy was either trained to act as such, or lacked enough social interaction to learn otherwise."
no subject
Yes, Mukuro, this may be the secret of part of why he's as patient as he is with you, as much as he realizes you're incredibly dangerous and someone just as likely to turn destructive.
no subject
Much like he was as a child. You create someone with a goal and a weapon and no grasp on the world, they will use their skills as they see fit. Again, he was a prime example.
"It won't be easy, unless you can discern exactly what this one went through you run the risk of unintentionally triggering some sort of violent response. It's quite the interesting puzzle really."
Mukuro takes a seat next to Saguru on the couch, and casually reclines almost regally. He is quite used to treating this couch like a throne.
"I would have to say that the manor is quite possibly the worst place for him. Back in your world he had more of a semblance of an identity and purpose... a job to do. In this world that is much harder. If you add questioning the identity he has been condition into believing, you may just set him off even worse. And considering you and this Kaito had... I am going to assume a strained relationship, you may become this new one's target if he is trying to clean up his predecessor's mistakes..."
no subject
no subject
He would volunteer himself... but the would make him a bit too suspic- actually you know what, he will volunteer himself...
"Or you were provided a sufficient disguise so that this 'Kaito' doesn't recognize you..."
no subject
"While some kind of assistance to get a better handle on things might be useful, I still need to clear things up; I'll be living here, so the sooner I can register as not-an-enemy the better. It's not like I can disappear. He'd also probably find out sooner or later if I deceive him - which would probably only undo whatever progress I may've made by then and cast my own claims into doubt..." He sighs. "I think I may have to just swallow the risk that I'll be a target and try to damage-control. After all, that last altercation could've gone worse."
no subject
He flips his hair casually, out of all the things he prided himself on, his ability to deceive others was his absolute favorite. Things had been so easy here though. A nice game would be most welcome...
"Honestly Saguru, I know I am not the most...trustworthy of people, but I think it would be a tragedy should something happen to you."
The reasons behind that are up to you to try and figure out.
no subject
He has caught on that Mukuro seems to at least find him amusing, and almost definitely has at least several ulterior motives for being as "friendy" as his. "I just wish I were the only person to worry about here."
no subject
Ulterior motives are a psycho's best friend! He is not going to be dissuaded by your excuses this time as he usually is. He wants to meet this boy~
no subject
Unfortunately he's seeing your psycho and raising it a double-Earth-sign.
no subject
He stands and thoughtfully begins to pace back and forth across the room as he brainstorms a plan.
"I would use the guise of Chrome, the young girl I believe I mentioned her to you a few times, the one who I've been taking care of. The body of a female as slight as her should not be deemed a threat by any means. I will temporarily add her name to my door to give the appearance of her staying here for about a week. Should he question her whereabouts I will simply say she was sent home. And, should she come to the manor I will be the first to find her, otherwise she will perish. Then I will explain the situation to her. Besides, the manor does have a nasty habit of wiping one's memories clean, does it not?"
He will make you show him this boy even if he has to take over your body to do it Saguru. He needs him some minions...
Minions that are not Fran.
no subject
no subject
He blinks and the kanji numeral in his eye goes from a six to a one, and Saguru
you poor poor thingif you were to look at your body you would notice that you are suddenly this girl."Of course I will need to accompany you, but rest assured he will not notice my presence at all."
no subject
"...This defeats the purpose of me attempting to salvage the fiasco that was last night, doesn't it?"
no subject
And he can't help but let out another chuckle at that expression there... not dropping the disguise just yet. It's simply amusing.
"Surly you can see the benefits of what I'm offering. It would be foolhardy to refuse."
no subject
Which means that look hasn't budged.
"Either way, whatever I do is going to have to wait; hiding under blankets in a dark room with nothing more solid than tea is all I'm going to be good for until sometime tomorrow."
no subject
He dims the light, and casts one more glance over his shoulder at Saguru on the couch....who has seemingly neglected the pants he was lending him.
"And do be aware, I did give you those pants so that you could wear them. Kufufufufufufu"
no subject
Pants, however, probably are actually a good idea to fix anyway, even if he's not going to be trying to get back to his room just yet. And even if it ends up being more "pull under blanket and put on" than something more normal and involved.
Not that it mattered much, since shortly after that was a wad of detective too aftereffect-hungover to care that he was basically being a blanketwad on the couch of someone he knew better than to seriously trust very far. Still, it wasn't like there'd be any reason for Mukuro to DO ANYTHING to him, seeing as how Mukuro'd been quite persistent in trying to convince Saguru of his good graces and it'd be more to his advantage for - whatever he was plotting to "play nice" at a time like this.
It was a very muffled and bleary sort of comment that came out of the blanket."You really are invested in this one, aren't you?"
no subject
Almost honest... sort of. There were a few things he needed to settle with this 'Kaito imposter', one of them being Saguru's safety. He didn't care what else that thing went on a rampage on, but he needed Saguru's body in top shape at all times in case of an emergency. The other being the fact that this one also is an experiment. While Mukuro is hardly capable of feeling something as sentimental as kinship, there is a bit of a tie there. Perhaps it is from his lack of contact with Ken and Chikusa, but a new member to the once infamous Kokuyo gang was quite an exciting idea.
And perhaps this one would be able to tell him more about Saguru...
...knowing the order of canon events, this tag is kind-of depressing.
Even though he's pretty sure he's going to be undoing damage here and working against some pushing towards a much more bitter, cynical, and misanthropic world view.
Still, for all that he wanted to do as much as he could to NOT see this not!Kaito turn into a monster? "Here let's avoid you being exposed to anything else" wouldn't work either.
"Mmm. And at least I know I have - some resources back home to try to help so that he has a chance to get a life."
Re: ...knowing the order of canon events, this tag is kind-of depressing.
"That would probably be quite helpful, but do allow me to warn you: depending on what he is, and what has been done to him, you cannot hope to integrate him into normal society without putting other's at risk."
He tucks his bangs behind his ear, and his face becomes somewhat more serious. For once this is honest advice, not for the sake of others, but for the one like him.
"Even if you should teach him all of your proper morals and codes of conduct, he will lack the basic foundation to act upon them properly. And that is if you can even instill ethics into him properly."
no subject
More than sound enough to be honest.
"...I'd settle for some kind of loophole that'd give time for him to learn, and get to be his own person, instead of someone's tool or weapon... if I don't function in more than the fringes of 'normal society', I ... know I can't expect someone who's been through that to do any better." He frowns, draping an arm over his face and sliding down to lay across the couch. "As it stands, if nobody does anything to try, to most people he'll be a 'thing' - some kind of failed experiment or dangerous 'object', and no-one deserves that."
no subject
He chuckles and shakes his head, not mentioning that at that age he still took similar actions against people.
"It is not that my morals were misplaced exactly, it is that I simply acted on them the way I found came naturally. It is a very 'Of Mice and Men' like case if you will. This one will not be able to socialize without proper supervision, otherwise you run the risk of an 'accident'."
no subject
"It ... makes sense - there's a lot of basic groundwork 'taken for granted' in normal society that ... wouldn't exist." And it makes Mukuro make a huge amount of sense, really, as well. "As much as I deal in 'abnormal psychology', I admit, this is territory where any other resource I might have is pure theory."
no subject
"Now imagine what would happen to this fellow if he happen to slip up? Perhaps he mistook a couple on the street playing around and accidentally snapped the boy's neck. What would happen to him? He would either be locked away, or forced to flee with the label of 'monster'. You see, integration is something next to impossible for that very reason."
which is why it would be best if you left this 'Kaito' up to Mukuro
