It's a good rule.

[Gene can count in his life only 4 friends and one of them he married but was on the verge of divorce when she died. He's still hurting about it but he isn't willing to talk about it. He inhales the smoke and blows it out slowly.]

That takes time...you know...to build the trust to make it happen.

[He nods in agreement, to be honest after things with Kana it'd be a wonder if he'd ever trust anyone again with the secret of the Sohma curse outside of the family and Tohru.]

Admittedly it's just as much down to how willing you are to let yourself trust them, not just to be won over - you have to allow yourself that much.

Yeah...

[He bends down and plucks a blade of grass.]

Too many variables can twist the outcome which has been known to happen from time to time.

Yeah. Life isn't the same when that one life changing event happens. It can change a person to the very core.
